Today's show is the second leg of our trip to New England and features six different Northeast IPAs we brought back from Vermont including Heady Topper, Crusher, Sip of Sunshine, and more! We also recount our visits to several breweries.
This is the Beer of the day Podcast. From Beer of the Day World Headquarters in California. This is the beer of the day podcast. Tonight we have part two of our New England trip show. And tonight. All the beers are from Vermont
and all the beers are of the I.P.A. variety and two of them are from the alchemist Heady Toppy and Crusher. Joining me tonight. Andy Hamilton Britton Minor Joel Minor Kiera Hopkin and from Pasadena, Jeff Miller Lance Burks and Hugo Pedilla. Hello long time no see the females are in sync with them in these. You know the proper side to Victor. So you need to watch that they being full disclosure we it's been five minutes since the last. So everyone's a little bit lubed up here but we're into the I.P.A. section of the river Mont show you know first science. Yes first beer. We have mosaic I.P.A. from last nation brewing. This is in the Morrisville Vermont. It's about fifteen. Minutes north of Stowe. This is almost a session I.P.A.. Five point
five. It's definitely the lowest alcohol beer we're going to have on the second part of the show. Man this is a cloudy beer. It looks like headlights in the fog. It does it's a pale yellow color. It looks like maybe like grapefruit juice or something. This is what they're talking about when you say a North East style I feel. That is some cloudiness. Two fingers of white head very small bubbles and it's very aromatic and of all the beers we've had this is very aromatic I get a lot of citrus grape fruit. Maybe a little sour Innes you're right Jeff. That's there's a lot of aroma in this. I think this is one of the breweries that we didn't intend on going but we had a lot of recommendations to go to last nation we had quite a few there's beers and we brought one of these back. I thought it was a little underwhelming. Yeah I wasn't that impressed with the place but I think we kind of missed out because when we got there it was almost closing time on the outside they had a beer garden on the patio and we didn't partake in that we went inside and they had it's kind of a sit down restaurant type place. But we didn't order food and so they were like OK you just one beer. We had other dinner plans. So it was OK This was one we brought back and what we have here is kind of a like you said a kind of a session I.P.A. little citrusy. It smells good at first but the longer that I smell. I get like a little bit of plasticky smell to it which isn't palatable to me it's very watery you know very it's. Watered down for sure. That's exactly what I was going to say next. I think that plastic smell translates to the flavored I get that too. Not really a fan of that I agree I like plastic on the aroma. And I know this is this is horrible to describe a beer but it's so happy and so better that it's almost like burnt rubber. That's like that. Yeah I mean it's very unpleasant. Yes produce is always worse. Yeah I mean it is not a good beer we don't ever. We don't normally say like this is a non joy will be here. You do get a lot of mosaic hops but this is something I would never buy again. Yeah but I disagree with you as I think this is actually a good beer and we're in this period like Dallas said and I said well this way a lot lately
but a lot of the beers I have taste better out of the CAN than at the brewery and I think this tastes better it's the right amount of wrong. So I was actually does taste better because I remember disliking this beer immensely then and now I only you know take it or leave it. I think it's a very but I think it's a tasty beer. OK flavored soda water instead of Sprite Are we got that one out of the way before we move into the next beer does anyone have any interesting beers I've had this week. I think we all have a beer that we all share. Oh yeah tell about that on Wednesday we had a Belgian triple from claim steak brewery which is a local Sacramento brewery They've been open about seven months Rancho Cordova in Rancho Cordova it was called brother. Chad Belgian triple it was a fun nominal beer coming in at ten percent. It was a little bit sweet but it was ferment with blueberries as well as jelly beans I remember being like that's the first jelly bean beer. I've ever had it in so. It tastes like a dessert beer and most often when I drink dessert beers I'm thinking like stouts you know Chocolate Stout things like that that's something that I want to drink for dessert this Belgian triple is like just that it's very sweet but it's still super palatable. I feel like even the sweet as it is normally we think that that's a symptom of masking the alcohol but it doesn't seem like it's masking the alcoholic ten percent. It just doesn't seem like it. The ten percent beer even with how sweet it is no drinking it. I'd say it's like seven just tastes like a seven and then that blueberry flavor is just awesome. I don't know every blueberry beer I've had has been pretty good so I think it's a flavor that kind of pears well with beer and this kind of Belgian style really works well with it as well. Was the Belgian East added to the sweetness because sometimes you'll get a sweet beer and it's comes off too syrupy but for some reason that beer was well balanced by the Belgian use they used. So good job on claim steaks part and I had several beers from there that I like so I'm going to go back there sometime soon because I enjoyed that lends you to be want to mention actually that was me go. Yeah we didn't get that Belgian down here
but we did have an interesting beer that we wanted to talk about kind of inspired by a trip there to Vermont one of the big breweries the beginning in notoriety out there so monkish and I went out there for a special release. They had a L.A. hat which they introduced just to commemorate the Dodgers advancing to the next round. So well right now but it was really I thought it was a delicious I.P.A. it's kind of inspired by that NE type I.P.S. very cloudy very hasty. Easy look to it very juicy we
all had a couple of those here today and I thought it was a very delicious beer to share monk starts. Elfs nice true. That was that for monkish Yeah and actually one of the other beers at the Pig con the interesting beers I also picked up another one
from them that they have a collaboration with Trillian out of Boston tonight you guys left a little early and I hung out there and picked up another one. While I had that extra day there in Boston. That was pretty good. It was never an again kind of
a mango I.P.A. It was pretty good. So we were at Hill farmstead Lance met some people that live there and was like working out a beer exchange program where they would send us beer and we would send them and he asked them you know what beer from California. Would you like and they mention monkish correct resoundingly monkish that seems like the only beer that they wanted. I offered them multiple multiple different beers. Including one whining about how there is light now and that was one of the things is they really didn't have any idea about California beers and didn't really have much appreciation for them they most people had now even heard of Russian River. Even though you know there. Everyone says the best beer in the West Coast best beer in the East Coast. So I was interested in that kind of go very local there and I think some of it had to do with the collaboration with Trillium because it allowed for at the local scene to get their experience in monkish with their collaboration so maybe that's how or the reason why they wanted the monks beers is because of their collaboratively M I bet that's what it was you know they need a little gateway into the monkish otherwise they would never even touch any of the California swill
we have here. Let's move to the next beer. Let's we're going to step it up here a little bit. We've got. At a double I.P.A. from Burlington beer company in Willesden Vermont which is near Burlington it's on the outskirts and this is it says it's complicated. Being a wizard double I.P.A.. We went to a liquor store in Boston and the guy there recommended this one. So we bought it and brought it back home when this in Reno years our guy was anywhere near the Coat Factory. Yes it's just not Burlington now and I didn't see Bernie there. And I looked this morning up but I knew Weiss That was a pretty. We picked us up and want to tell you're correct. We did the capital of Vermont and you had this number for the first time or so we went all over looking for surprise sunshine which we'll talk about later and we finally found it. The guide to the liquor store said oh this is such a great beer so that's why we bought this. So none of us have ever had this before I think we're looking forward to this. This is a double I.P.A. single I.P.A. double this is or it's slightly cloudy now it's cloudy as the previous beer. It has a little more golden color than pretty much any beer we've had on the show today. Very thin very thin white head and the aroma I'm getting kind of earthy hops a little bit spunky maybe a little pine taking a sip. So I've already said this beer and it's very better. It's very earthy hops Piney hops. It's a little bit syrupy to me and this is more of what I think when I think of IP is that we're used to. I think that it's a little bit more west coast than a lot of other east coast I.P.S. we've had. Do you think this is the booze it's. Yes I think that it was just I.P.A. we've had so far I think this is more like middle like some of the Cincinnati I.P.S. or ones we get like from Pennsylvania or that I don't say this is West Coast or even Pacific Northwest because those are a little more on the tropical side. It's very it's very bitter. Yeah yeah abuse on this probably pretty high super better. So when we bought this right after we bought it. We ran into a homeless guy who said don't drink after you drive this Don't don't try to arrive actually during this pier. And don't drive very now but when the homeless
person tells you not to drive after hearing this here. Well there's no telling telling him you know you know get one drink one of this and you'll be fine but don't drink too and then drive. And this was a homeless person who were like whatever and he
was spot on like this is boozy this is alcoholic for sure but it's pretty bitter toppy I mean this is a pretty strong beer from Burlington. I don't think it's a good interpretation of a east coast version of a West Coast I.P.A. I did not like this
it's not balanced. No no I think I I think I enjoyed this less than the last nation I'd rather have last nation after this one so in the same liquor store. We were served some locally made vodka that has no potatoes in it but it's made out of honey. What was your review on that. Yeah well I think Dallas had some contention with whether or not it was actually vodka because there was no potatoes in it but also we had some gin that was made out of the mums I don't know what it was on. No it was made
out of elderberry something I don't know it was a bunch of weird moonshine from a hippie lady. It was and this was the place that we found sip of sunshine right. Yes So Lance immediately said Take everything you got and we pulled about four cases out of there and then we said our rental cars much smaller than we realized i think it was funny because we we called the head before we took the trip to find out how much we could get and I think most locations were limiting you to you want to do that
like we called one place and was one place no no we called several places and they told us one or two or packs per person and we get there and I asked the guy that was stocking the beer how much we could get and he says as much as you want. So I ask him to clarify and he's clearly as much as you want you can buy our inventory you want and so I'm I'm by the cooler scene one four pack freaking out because it's mine because I'm the first one there right. And he comes out and said you want to case and then he points to everybody else and say you want to case you want to case you want to case I got four cases coming out and everybody starts he was Oprah everything no no no we don't need that much but I still wanted my case and then just sort of think that he owned the place and he was like go in the back. You know a behind the refrigerator and be out of there and check and they're not there. Checking the stash. I thought he filled out an application before you got there he was up there was
stuck in the name tag on and everything in the clipboard taking notes. You know. So we were talking about to the function right. Yes we're going. Where did you have this before we had it at the single fresh wet and wild Syrian event a hop harvest festival and we've had it here. I have an audio clip of Joel interviewing people seeing what appears their fate. They said suppose sunshine and then we want over and tried suppose sunshine I had this fifteen minute clip of this exchange happening. Two years ago and at the same store. The gentleman who recommended the wizard as we were walking out. Now we know that we've had as a percent shine. We've we have a friend who brings us back from the New England area but we went on this trip not just to get simple sunshine but lots of NO YOU DIDN'T other beers but substantiating was the adventure for sure. Yeah. So you know maybe not listen to homeless people for your suggestion. OK Let's move on to the next one we have tribute. Is from fourteenth star Brewing Company C. St Alban's Vermont. What do you think of the etymology of the name of this brewery is anybody saying to your teen star on the flag. Correct. Vermont was the first state after the original thirteen. Before that it was one of five
states to be an independent entity or were they at that time the territories. They were the republic of Vermont before that they were the Republic of New Connecticut and then they said that's you the name and then they rename themselves Vermont. So this one is like that or a bit a bit of a darker orange than most of the Bears you've had tonight. Still pretty cloudy but it's more orange ish color a little bit. It's not quite all the way Orange but it's more on the Orange side of golden and it was quite cloudy two fingers of white head. Sounds like French toast. I separated after I got wet cardboard for instance do you get like a little maple syrup in there like this. Send them in the syrup. It definitely land and. They will start. I did I agree with you the same thing with the taste of it now. Well I think I like what Harcourt well but a car with maple syrup on it I'll go with that you know actually tasting this beer though I'm pleasantly surprised that it seems a lot more balanced
especially from the last beer but it's actually really sweet. I think it's really sweet as a better. It's better but it's not as bitter as the wizard of butter is it wizards and it is there is some sweetness in the aftertaste. I just feel like it's very similar to the other beer we had to the except better to start I think of the last three years this is my favorite too. Yeah I am sure he likes it up in what cardboard did the color was very low. It's more balanced in the last two beers we had it's
there is a lot of bitterness in this beer but it plays well with the care Mel and the multitude have in the sweetness and do pretty well balance beer. You are getting a lot. Alcohol and a little bit of boozy taste but eight point one percent. You're going to get a little bit of that and it's not overpowering. And this is a double I.P.A.. I like the flavor of this. I do you know if you're going to like I.P.A. as the bitterness is part of the ballgame you know you you enjoy some bitterness but I think the caramel malts here and the bitterness kind of really blend well together pretty good flavor. I agree it's not an overwhelming betterness and the bitterness definitely balances out the sweetness that I'm getting. If you told me this was eight point one I don't think that I would think it was quite that high. And I think there does like like we already talked about there is a little bit of that palate fatigue because we're going on to our third beer in the I.B.A. cat. Nori but you do get that little bit of sweetness and syrup. But also a good flavor of bread like and he said it does have a little bit of that French toast. Feeling in flavor and hints of it as well a little bit of a tractor at the Carmel ization that comes in there. Do we know what kind of hops are in this one native I feel like it's a mix between like slightly piney and slightly citrusy citrusy hops card or cardboard or we're going to take a break when we come back we finish out strong with two from the alchemy rist Petit tappa crusher and lances favorite the sip of sunshine from their Lawson's finest liquid We'll be right back. The day dot com or you can leave a comment right on the website. Let's get back to the show. Welcome back to the beer that a podcast now or step it up here we've got the big boys the first beer in the second half. Here is from the alchemy best Waterbury Vermont Teddy Tapper. Excited about these beers American double I.P.A. eight percent. The most famous beer from Vermont. I have heard so much about the spirit I would never have it beer from the East Coast really the plenty the elder of the East Coast. This is the epitome of northeast I.P.A. is right. Apparently it is allegedly It will be measured first sniff and taste. It's golden color cloudy not overly cloudy but pretty darn cloudy three fingers of white head big old bubbles a very mild smell to a little bit of mild hop bread care amount of them caramel malt a
little bready aspect. So one thing that I've noticed about pretty much all the beers that we've had tonight and maybe it's a by product of shipping I don't know but they don't seem to be super carbonated they don't taste on carbonated right but yeah they're not like overly carbonated I mean most. User cans. Yeah the at the rim and we did the test on the cans versus the bottle and you get like the small bubbles in the cans versus the bigger bubble bubbles in the bottles. You know I think that's a
little bit. I ship these back to myself. And so I think it was a game ever. I think is ground. So I don't think these wind up in the. In the airplane and back down. Jeff's beers when in the airplane they. They bought these huge cases like military grade cases and then. Packed them all in there and then shipped them back. Lance did too. He made his own Jeff bought his own it's like shipping a nuclear weapon which they did that do one of the funniest things about shipping the beer what I thought was pretty funny is that we were doing this in the parking lot of Esther's late yet the Fedex store was watching Dallas do this so casually walked up to the counter. Yeah ask him what's in the box and I said Vermont maple syrup and she said. I just saw you loading beer into it in the parking lot. I'm going to tell her it's beer she's like well you can't ship beer. It's alcohol. It's not legal. I'm like. Well that's why I said it was maple syrup which is the cancer she refused to ship. So then we go back out. I've already packed the box with all these bubble wrap. We're going to fifty pound box of beer and. Taking all that beer out of my suitcase and pack it in this box means that we don't have enough room in the car to fit all of our shit in it anymore. All of our bags. There are two huge ass boxes of Verbier shipping. So I left them in the parking lot sitting there and then I drove to the another ship or another shipping service. That doesn't ask as many questions and then shipped from there know they do not use the U.S.P.S. is it in its. A felony. Yeah I know U.S.P.S.. One of them didn't let me ship it. One of them did so good job on the one that is when I can name any names because I don't want to get in trouble big ups to them back to his beer. I am pleasantly surprised at how well balanced and not sweet it is for eight percent. I would never guess this is an eight percent. B. I put it like six and a half maybe seven but not eight percent. So I want to ask for everybody who has not experienced this beer I'm sure you've heard of it and it has a certain reputation of being the king of the East Coast. Does it live up to that expectation. I think so. I think I mean it's it's the best have had I think in general just since I am and I Peter all the way around. I am pleasantly surprised with the spirit. There are so many people in line to wait for the spear. But they have it down like clockwork. Once you get in you wait in line you get into the door. Well they were parking attendant were they have were there an hour beforehand and they are waving us in and park and they say Park tight park close because we got to fit a lot of cars in here and there's a line that you know three hundred people long they're selling some cookies to support some type of breast cancer charity I think. And so we took you for breakfast in the hours of the brewery that Jeff. Well did when he was quoting Pacific Standard Time so they opened at eleven and when he got there ten thirty. They definitely did NOT eleven and they said no no one in the parking lot before ten. Although we did get it like about and thirty and there was already the parking lot was full so the parking attendant telling you where to go under people in line. So you got away. But we got into this place and it's like you try the three beers that they have available you try this beer and it topper you try talk about here and the crusher one little sip like an ounce of each and then you move to the next
station and then you buy whatever you want to buy a kick. Yet it's a very scientific. It's very well run and we had a good time but it's very it's very like clock like clock work. It's driven towards the consumer and try and getting as many pallets of beer and I see pallets because you literally see middle aged women walking out with three or four pallets of beer because they're Max you know everything that they can buy and it's not a place that you can linger and it's unique in that sense that when you get in line you're committing to an hour away and you're basically going to buy you know between seventy five dollars and a hundred dollars worth of beer. It's not a place to try anything really. You're basically set yourself up to make the purchase very robotic very militaristic it's a little bit Nazi I wasn't a huge fan of that whole thing. I mean I like to go to a brewery were there welcoming but I think the demand for this beer is so high that they've had to implement this trick system by
which they move people in and out of the most efficient manner. Here here's your beer get the hell out make room knowing people illegally. So one of the interesting things that I found out I was kind of joking with them about how it was just kind of a facade and they actually brooded somewhere else and brought it in but in in the middle of me joking with the guy there. He did admit that he toppers actually not produced at the brewery that we purchased at that but instead it's brewed at a different brewery closer to the Ben and Jerry's and that one is exclusively for heavy topper and then everything else is brewed at the one that we want to go pick this up which I found to be a little interesting and I was. Joking about it and turned out to be true right. I think he's rude at the original facility and then they made this huge ass place for Basically way for them to sell the beer better and then there was also a brewery at that location where the brew their other beers. Very I.P.A. centric. That's pretty much what they do. And so we've had the first one so far had a tougher. I'm noticing that there are huge letters that the top lip of the can say drink from the can. So Jeff I know you've had this beer before if anyone else has had this beers Well have you had it directly from the can in can you tell any difference between it being poured into a glass and drinking. Straight out of a can. Yeah I think so. So they say to drink out of the can because it preserves the hop profile and the hop oils that come from the spear. I think it's delicious. Whether it's out of the can or you pour it into that into a glass but if you pour it. If you just bring the straight of the can it's a little bit different experience and I totally agree with what they say I think I try both ways. So to what what Jeff was saying something that I've heard from one of the head brewers is that a main reason that they want to keep it in the can as well as to maintain the labor is that the purist way
that the brewery can I guess have some quality control on the consumer and make sure that the experience is what they want you to have is for you to have it out of a can if you pour it into a glass it might be dirty or there might be some residue of soap it might change the labor profile. So they want you to drink it out of the can because it can essentially guarantee. What what flavor profile you can get out of straight out of the can and that's why there are very they mostly go just cans and then if you do. Can you get it and it's at a bar. They have inspectors that come around and taste the beer. From that bar to make sure that the tap lines aren't dirty or that it's it's up to the quality that they want. So they're very they're sticklers for the quality I can respect that. Absolutely. And they're not the only ones I mean we see that with farmstead they go around the room our area and if there's bars or breweries that don't have clean tap clients or they're not respecting the quality of the beer. They will yank that shit and they will take that out and they want to have that beer available at that Bertie so that bar so we've seen that we were there and I respect the quality control that breweries like that. Have you know for
sure. Let's get into the next one. This is stepping up another notch this is the crusher double I.P.A. from the alchemy Waterbury Vermont nineteen point six three cent. This is the big dog was the question. Beverly know everybody hates that guy has anybody ever had this before I don't know negative. I hope it was I hope it's as good as the last one I had but we had this one of the place where it will taste one else tell the whole half an ounce. Yeah I've had half an ounce of this before this one is
that is cloudy it's got that haze to it I will tell you has a lot more hop smell to it than the previous heady topper. I was just going through I can tell the difference in the year over the colors I'm saying it's pretty similar. I think I think a little bit more yellow I thought it was because it is a little bit more orange little little darker a little more orange and a little more cloudy or a little more Claudia. So you do get a little bit more pronounced top smell to this. I think in the
aroma. It's going to a little bit of a funky hop a little bit of pine and it's very. Well balanced in regards to smell it's nothing is is I think smells off smells that somehow be very fresh. So I tasted this one ding mirror nearly back to back from the heavy topper. And this is a lot less balanced than the heavy top or I feel like the heavy topper is pretty well balanced. It Toppy but it's better but it's not that sweet but it's nicely balanced and this one to me is much more bitter. Yeah this is more over the top strong. Yeah in your face. It's it's both very sweet and very bitter It starts out to me really sweet and then it goes there's just that bitter finish similar to the wizard and almost gives me chills up kind of the better player. FACE. So you want a bold robust double I.P.A. this is really the beer. Yet if you only want to drink one of these at nine point six percent. It's going to do the job come in at what a sixteen ounce can. But you compare this to Hopper real low or some of those I guess this is a double I.P.A. so I maybe like Hop Hop shortages What is that a doubling of so something like hop shortage. It would be like the West Coast equivalent of this and I mean this was cloudy or it has it's kind of a different
animal than what you the equivalent out here would be it's not up my alley but it's definitely. A well crafted beer. You can tell that it is a quality beer. It's just not my thing. It's definitely a good beer but it's it's like you. Many of us that is it is much more in your face much more bolder flavor than at the top or i think i give me much more it appreciate in for heavy copper I think heavy topics office a little bit more over rated. The of the beers that we had from alchemy. I actually like
focal bang a little bit better and I I think it's an unfortunate that we didn't get to try that during this during during this cast but definitely it does give me more of an appreciation for how to better. You know what we may have to try to focus banger on another show. Let's move into the final beer of the night Lance of sunshine. There we go. What's it called. You're welcome everybody. Sip of sunshine from Lawsons find this liquids there in Warren Vermont. You can go to this brewery. They just brew it and put it out into the world and then hope that the liquor store you go to has it. Yeah well the liquor is very with you and no limitations on it. So last before we try this. Why do you like this beer so much. I feel that I have kind of a taste for brewed forward beers along with a well balanced malt backbone and so this kind of incorporates the to play for profiles that I like in a beer. It's an eight percent beer and you really don't feel that or sense that in the taste profile and once you're about you know two or three and you definitely feel it when you stand up but I think it's a very well crafted beer well balanced incorporates the malt backbone with the flavor and it's just it's just a juice bomb. It's something that I
just feel is exceedingly palatable and so great representation of one of the best representations of this style of beer is golden colored more so than the previous beers we've had only slightly cloudy and it's got three fingers of white head that's not dissipated at all. It's just sticking around and smells more suite. A little bit like corn syrup and and I hate to use that dozen times people think of corn syrup and I think of like an artificial. You know artificial smell of sugar but I will tell you that it is not bad at all to the taste. I think what Lance said when it comes to a mult and floral in a little bit of fruit all in wine. It is very well balanced I'll I would take this over the heavy top or any day. So this beer reminds me of a
theory that we've all had the truckle tropical I.P.A. from Sierra Nevada the bear camp series that on steroids. Is this beer like it just the next level but very similar player profile. Yeah. And so the order of the spear we had the crusher which is way over the top in our step and back a little bit to sip a sunshine. So you do have to kind of compare this to have a top or they're both eight percent. They're both ne I.P.S.. But for some reason the malt profile of this beer is more palatable to me than heavy top or heavy top or tasted and there's a distinct multi knows that maybe you get used to it if you drink it all the time and I think that's the case kind of like how Syria bad it has a unique multi miss that you get used to when you drink
all the time. Yeah. The first time you drink Sierra Nevada you're like Whoa what's that. When you drink it pretend years like I have then you don't you know T. said anymore. So I think I was drinking a heavy top or for ten years. I wouldn't be able to distinguish that unique malt characteristic but for me on my palate. It's a little off with this one sip of sunshine I don't get that I just get complete balance. I get a great hop flavor. I get. Very little alcohol for eight percent. And it's just like taking a sip of sunshine. It's like getting up. Mix civil but a little bit of bang go but it's it's just not overpowering at all. It's just like inside it where you're like trying to figure it out but you know what's coming off as a little bit
of tropical fruit flavors that just aren't like oh I'm putting like a little slice of pineapple or orange in my beer. You're getting none of that but you're getting those little hints of the tropics inside your beer definitely when you said guava a little lucky we are something maybe a little cucumber. There's like all these little subtle fruit flavors in there that it's it's fantastic. I think of a frictionless beer in in my opinion. Knowing that it is an eight percent I.P.A. I could put down
four or five of these no problem. Well luckily you bought a few cases of it. All right well let's recap the beers we've had on this second part of our Vermont trip and you want to take us through. Yeah we started off at the mosaic I.P.A. from last nation. Then we had the it's complicated. Being a wizard double I.P.A. from Burlington beer company then we had the tribute W.P.A. from fourteenth star bring heavy topper from the optimist pressure from the alchemy and simple sunshine from Boston's finest liquids spin the wheel. We're going to see who's going to go first to choose their favorite beer of the day it's still spinning Hold on. OK here is first. This time. This is kind of a rough general I don't really like any of these beers. I usually like at least half of them. None of them. One of on this time I think everything was a little too bitter for my palate this time around. Yeah. But if I had to pick one I would have to go with the simple sunshine. It was probably the least better tasting for me. Had a little bit more multi taste versus the hop this time around and the it's hobby but it's more tropical fruity hops Joe. Yes So this is it's probably going to be repeat for everybody but it for me it was sip of sunshine. It had a
great mouth feel and all the things I said before it's that well balanced malt with those really just slight ants tropical fruits that I really liked in a beer. So I'm glad that you guys brought it back from Vermont and I could try it. Yes. Everyone says Hetty topper. You know it's the best beer. You can get on the north east. It's not true. I like sip sunshine better. They have the doubles sip of sunshine what's it called Double Sept third the Such double sunshine. They had that at the seared event of festival two years ago. I'm going to try look seek that out tomorrow hopefully I can find it because we didn't get to try that on our trip and you know what's better than one sip a sun shine double sip of sunshine. So I'll seek that out but for sure the present time is my favorite beer of the night. Jeffery. I agree I'm going at the double not the double the soup sunshine. This is the most delicious beer of our entire trip and that it was the one that did not have a brewery. I wish we
could have gone to a brewery. But Lawson's makes a fabulous beer so my beer the day today is the sip of sunshine Lance. Surprise surprise. It's going to be said to Sunshine I think pretty much everybody has got over why they like it that the profile of the flavors of fruit flavor. As the balance that incorporates the mall to me what really strikes home is that it has so much flavor and it combines all of those those flavor profiles they coalesce into something that's really drink a bowl that eight percent to be able to say that you could probably sit down and have three or four of these you know without blinking an eye is pretty incredible feat and they've created a quality beer and I have to say that with the Ritek reputation that helicopter had I think that they have unequivocally dethrone the king and simple sunshine is probably the best beer coming out of the East Coast right now. Hugo. I think I have to disagree with Lance. I think heavy topper lives up to the expectations. It has a reputation for being a great Northeast. Beer and it really was enjoyable for me to drink this beer. I think the only one out of the well the only beer I think out of the northeast that we brought back. That would have a throne this would have been
focal Bangor by the same brewery but of the ones that we had today at the top are by far the best I have to take a focal Bay or in a separate sunshine and we can put those up head to head at some other time. Andrew I'm going to go with Suppose sunshine
topper was great. It really was. But the simple sunshine is really. Just you know it reminds me of that tropical I.P.A. which is a beer when it was out. We just drank every last one we could get our hands on until they were gone. Excellent beer. Thanks. Lance anytime. So for me trying to pick the beer the day is like asking me to try to determine at what point in the car crash things went wrong so. I mean at one point I was facing the wrong way. Heading topper was great it was balanced it was nicely bitter not super sweet and simple sunshine was pretty good there were the little hints of fruit that everybody mentioned but the one that I took the most copious notes on and liked the best I think was actually the tribute from fourteenth star. It was sweet. I think it was the most balanced out of any of the beers that we had actually it was happy it was bitter but I could pick out some pretty nice citrus notes from it so tribute from fourteenth star's going to be my beer the day I think that was my number two.
