Better late than never, this week's episode recaps our recent trip to L.A. and the five breweries we visited. We also try six beers from the L.A. area, plus a strange brew. In Beer News we take on frivolous law suits and cereal. We also read comments from the listeners.
This is the Beer of the Day Podcast. From Beer of the Day World Headquarters in Elk Grove, California. It's the Beer of the Day Podcast, WITH Britton Minor, Kiera Hopkin... Sorry guys I got a little carried away there too much SNL lately. Tonight's Episode titled La La Land. That is a movie. Is already taken? I can come up with something else. Feel I get it I get it and I think of available. Two weeks ago Britton, Joel and I visited Jeff in Southern California and visited five different breweries and had all kinds of good bears that we will discuss on the program we are also going to try seven different beers six of them from the L.A. area. Joining me to Britain minor minor. And from past. Jeff Miller what's going to
go in L.O.L. I get it la L.A. land. Yeah Sanjay OK. Your show right I'm excited because the average A.B.V. of the. This show is seven point four six which I find acceptable Wow I realize it's bad math there. Are let's get into the first beer. This beer is from smog City Brewing Company in Torrance California it's called Amarilla gorilla. Oh no don't we have two beers on the show today that have the word gorilla in them yes or strange brew is also the voodoo Donat grape grill but that's the it's like a gorilla. It's like of the fighter. So you're right two gorillas. This is the first gorilla. Seven point eight percent who Lindy you know started out strong Yeah. That's a pretty clear golden yellow color Yep variously haze barely any but slight haze like thin white head. Doesn't really lace stick the glass too much little tiny carbonation bubbles floating up it smells really good Poppy and this is really fresh I mean we this was just bottled a few weeks ago picked up in the L.A. area you
guys drove this back up with you I mean this is pretty fresh L.A. beer smog cities one of the. You know L.A. breweries it's been around for a while it's not as much smog in L.A. as are used to be. Yet you know they say there's the candied orange peel smell that's when I put my nose inside this glass I'm getting that candied orange peel that is like strong plus the hops it's good pine smelling hops it's strong and it's it's enjoyably like pleasant The smell is really good on this I wish I could bottle and put it in a cologne. It is really easy to pick up on the citrus notes there. Can be but I can a taste has a sweet taste to it though I think it's really balanced I actually like it for an I.P.A. I think it balances it's better with that sweet really well it's like a security and maybe slightly floral hop that I like. And you know I get some tropical fruit also but I agree it's very well balanced this you know some of the I.P.A. is we have our super happy which I enjoy but I definitely stand why some people like a little more balance a little more malt to it this to me has the right hop and malt mix and to me the hops are tropical citrus and maybe some pine. And also it doesn't I wouldn't say that it has a crisp finish but I think that it ends pretty quickly and it doesn't linger like a lot of other I.P.O.'s do for me I think the crypt the crispness that I get is like a it's a good zest like if you put the lemon zest Sest and it kind of finishes it's a clean finish to clean
that's good I like that. The bitterness. Serves to abbreviate the aftertaste it doesn't the bitterness doesn't linger on. And so when you have a low bitterness I.P.A. like this one even though it's really hot be all these East Coast I.P.A. is right now the Northeast style the cloudy ones the very juicy ones are very popular because they're hopping but they're low bitterness and this one is not that East Coast style but it does take on some of those characteristics where you get some of the tropical fruit Enos and low bitterness and so it makes a very happy beer drinker I would argue that it actually is better it's just not lingering like you get with like a lager needs I.P.A. where the bitterness just sits in the back of your throat and causes like a little bit I mean. You know it's that cotton mouth feel where if you drink too much of it you get that overwhelming like you know like bio Biles not a good word but you have straight were but it's a long lasting burn in your in your throat in your. Back your throat and I get this I think both perfectly it's abbreviated and I think that there is bitterness there but it's well balanced so the sugars served to kind of make the bitterness not stick around Steve what do you think I like it I like I really appreciate how well balanced it is I'm not a big fan of the happy beers this is quality to me you see a seven point eight I.P.A. on the list and you're like they're not going to like it. You know generally but this one you're cool with yeah so Jeff I do wonder how much this beer cost for this bottle What do you going to pay for this bottle you know on average just doesn't pay for beer cheese I mean I don't I don't remember the cost but I don't think you're going to tell the company is over eight dollars for this bottle of beer No I don't think so so I would probably I would probably pay eight or nine dollars for this bottle so I think it's that good I would I would drink this bottle which I think says a lot like I could definitely see myself drinking this during Now throughout the summer and being perfectly happy with having this beer. Which I hate I.P.A.. Here you live over there I am. In the thoughts on this one. I like it it's not one of my favorite ones but I do see
myself like it like Britain said drink it throughout the season. Probably more on like this evening spring. Or days where it's not too hot not too cold yet I do like the fact that it does have the well balanced sisters the pine. Just Works all my palate would you say this is not happy enough for you. Yeah I would I'm used to a little bit happier I think though this or not life really appreciate this style of work yeah we do the show. So as I mentioned in the intro or at least attempted to we have been two weeks since we went to L.A. Jeff had to make a detour to St Louis last weekend so the podcast is one week delayed but here we are. And will take you through the breweries that we've visited we started out the day on Saturday taking the Goober out to Clermont and we tried several of the beers there Claremont's one of our favorite breweries So we want to take her and enjoy and show them first hand liked it a lot we met listener Juan there and that was a good time liked him a lot and he even gave us a beer that we're going to have on the show tonight then we got the next tube or are you sponsored by because if not we should be. If you want to sign up for whoever they can go to www dot beer the day dot com sign up and we will make five dollars. Five dollars I want to hear other beer drinkers thoughts on the L.A. river drivers because. Ours is so well less than mediocre leave your comments on the website please Yeah well here you go it's for us please we're OK We only want we don't want to five breweries and we took seven or eight uber rides that day and all of it some of them were iffy so we left Claremont. It's a noble Il works in Anaheim there's next to the stadiums Yes the hockey place a Honda one hundred sourness one hundred Center Yeah and then we went to the brewery they have an excellent like their Tom Ridge super which every. Brewery yesterday went to a bunch that. Wasn't first. After the brewery we went. Two bottle logic and we finished the night with Hopper Razzi which was an impromptu stop that we were very happy we may say we finished the night there that's true but we want to your memory ended there so if you're going to go to two really good breweries walk from bottle logic to hop Razzi Yeah great experience is great all right so fiber What interesting beers that we had that we wanted to talk about anyone and we made some notes I have two that I want to talk about so the first one just going in chronological order of the breweries that we went to Noble it all works I had the Noddy thought which was excellent it is a golden Milk Stout that was on I trow and I really liked it because I feel like a lot of beers sometimes go astray when you add the coffee because it ends up being like a Serb it gets really liked By be in acidic and kind of takes on the wrong flavors of the coffee this one not a sauce did not it was the brew with lactose paired with the coffee so it's more like a coffee with cream and it's very smooth and super drink a bowl and it was unique and I could drink that all day long I agree and then. Bought a logic double actuator I.P.A. which was a bottle I've had recently it was the beer the day a few weeks ago to try it on tap out bottle logic was excellent I mean every beer that we had there was really good man they were. And that was a great experience CLAIRE You know we started out at Claremont like Dallas and we did great time in Claremont has a great selection of every the whole spectrum of beers and everything was great there but just going to bottle logic those are probably the two overall best breweries of the day for sure bottle logic had I think the most B. years that I liked all in one place. How many did we try we we walked up and said team can you give us one of everything and they did it one of everything I think it was sixteen there were probably at least seven or eight that were excellent so they had like a rotating tap and they had five beers on their rotation and they were all amazing I think Jeff you like to want to watch I did I mean I liked jam the radar which was amazing and double actuator but every beer there was really nice. There wasn't there were two more that I really liked and this was the other thing that I liked about bottle logic is they had. Clever names I love clever names so there's Byzantine vision and Berlin near equation both of those on top of JEM the radar were excellent and then the brewery had one that I really liked that was unique and it was called out of the lunch box and it was kind of a low A.B.V. one but it tasted just like a peanut butter jelly sandwich and it was fantastic yeah what did you guys think of the brewery I mean this is a place we've had a lot of their beers that Alice has been there before I know John Brennan you haven't been there what was your impression of the brewery first thing that I thought when I walked in was that I met a winery because it's it gives you that kind of feel because it's so clean and everything is so
organized and it's kind of a little hole you twenty four like a brewery experience but I will tell you that what they have is in regards to selection and availability it's amazing you could go there and you could drink three ounces of everything and walk out of there and be in trouble so the thing that I didn't like about the brewery is that like you couldn't get growlers or anything so if you really liked a beer like it was kind of hard to take one with you so that's my gripe is that I couldn't
get more of what I wanted they had bottles but they were modeling everything. I have third of them were in the game but it was a super upscale experience which I like to and it reminds me of the only other top room that I've been to that is really nice like that is the Sierra Nevada wanted Chico is is really nice like that. I will say that Joel is the one who kind of wanted to go to the brewery I wasn't really keen on it because I've had I feel like several brewery beers that I felt or. They were experimental so they weren't fantastic they were terrible but I was just like well I haven't really had a barrier that I liked I was very pleasantly surprised when I went there though like my flight was really good so I don't remember. If I saw any I.P.A. is on the list at all maybe there were a few but we didn't drink any While we were there now I don't think and I don't think there were any I mean you're to get a lot of unique beers that are kind of experimental with a bunch of different fruits and flavors and I really enjoy the experience of trying a bunch of different beers and you know my hat's off to them we've had on the show before their horse the beer amazing yet we had on this show as a strange brew and I like to it may have been
my beer of the day I had again there and I was still completely impressed by it the even had like a double or Chahta it was you know the Imperial one imperial war and it was also good but I didn't like it was much I think that the original one was just such an awesome beer All right well now our paths are going to diverging a little bit Jeff has a beer that we don't have and we have a beer that he doesn't have so Jeff why don't you go ahead and kick off invasive species from Beechwood barbecue in brewing and in Long Beach. All right and I'm just part of this one second. But this is the invasive species as Dallas said from Beechwood really cool label here I think it's a little bit. Of. Knock on balance point because you know they sold out and all their beers are fish related. So you know there's some fun happening in history of course and making a little knock on another brewery can you hold up the camera. Yeah it's a dead fish Yes exactly. You know we like Beechwood they make great I
P A's I haven't had this one before I just poured it it is super clear golden yellow color it had smells citrusy and like tropical fruit let me take a sip and tell you what I think. Looks pretty good it's good it's citrusy for sure a little bit of the tropical fruit like I got in the aroma really dry like a dry mouth feel you know but Beechwood makes these super clear I.P.A. as I mean they they will probably never make one of these hazy I.P.A. So we've been seeing a lot of. Like the Beechwood beers that's where I went to the Melbourne tasting a few weeks ago. Where this is good super drink a bowl Look I don't think. It's a light color like a light yellow. But it's coming at seven point one percent that's that's pretty high do you taste all of that alcohol or is it is it masking it well not really I think it's well masked it's not it doesn't there's no boozy taste to it. On the finish there's a little bit of pine and like that dry great fruit but a citrus see you know a light bitterness but like the BEEN it's from so great fruit I like it it's very enjoyable undrinkable we can a malt back bone do you get on that. That's tough Reserve not a lot a lot of malt. And sets like a bready. Or biscuit. We. You know probably had to roam all I don't know what else they use but a very. Dry. I don't know light light malts for sure it's definitely a hop you're you get bitterness on the aftertaste your sweetness. Bitterness I mean there's a great brew bitterness and after this but not too bitter like I like an I.P.A. that is a pleasant bitterness not a bitterness that is hard to swallow. OK Awesome I think I'll be able to write a description of that beer without even drinking it it's very west coast style I mean it has been around for a while it's one of the you know premier L.A. area breweries and this is like a classic West Coast I.P.A. and I can enjoy a balance point sculpin but it's pretty funny to see this bottle I think that's my favorite L.A. brewery is Beechwood. I think
because of the barbecue though. Hell the very unlike the bar yeah they. Do have good food. All right well we'll do our stuff here now this is what I'm at Clermont one listener what's his name on the website Jim five six two. We met one and he brought us a couple beers to try on the show and. We had a good conversation with him it's a little bit different when you meet somebody who listens to the podcast and he knows our voices and knows who we are but we don't know who he is and so we got to know him a little bit and he's a home brewer and brews all kinds of different types of beer and some kind of experimental and Joel also home brewer they hit it off pretty good talked a lot about. Kind of war stories in the home. Arena and they had some pretty similar. Variances it was pretty pretty fun to listen to do people go through the process basically learned the first batch is a doozy and it wasn't just for Joel Yeah basically both their first batch is they both had exploding beer and ruining clothes and all kinds of stuff but the beer you guys are drinking is indeed brewing company worth the squeeze correct yeah well height seven percent it poured real kind of cloudy hazy with a big thick head on it yes someone said this was a hazy east coast I.P.A. because yeah for sure and it's what a yellow colored beer yeah yeah I have my hands behind the glass I can't see my fingers at all behind the glass you can tell because just a little bit of light is being. Prevented from coming through but it is yeah it's pretty opaque it's pretty opaque Yeah you can see a shadow when you put your finger behind it but that's about all Usually we say like gold and you know this isn't even gold it's just yellow yeah it's even like kind of a. Like a matt yellow even for me it's like a it's the color of the McDonald's arch. So the thing that I noticed about the aroma is that like compared to the Emerald gorilla which I thought smelled really good and happy this one smells the same like as a really good aroma but you can also smell like sweetness. I get a little like a little funk in there a little wet dog if you ask me like what the just prototypical I.P.A. you know what the what the smell of it is it's exactly what the Spirit is I mean it has
that I get the soap Enos the funk the hop. I mean it's all those different smells combined into sort of one melting pot I feel like I smell a little line. In the coconut there is and I normally feel like I don't get that for a beer Normally it's like citrus either orange or lemon but I feel like I'm getting specifically lime this is this is weird that I say that there's two things. Well the first thing I'll say is I like the taste of this beer there's two things I don't like I don't like the sweetness of the beer and I don't like the mouth feel the beer and I'll tell you why I say that is I feel like I want a little bit more sweetness to this I want to be a little bit sugary more sugary and then I also wanted to have. I totally forgot I
was going I want to be have a more creamy mouthfeel than what it has now it just seems very dry and like just bitter but in a way that I don't enjoy because it's causing like all of my taste buds just to singe up it is better for. You see the cloudy you're expecting East Coast style right but the sweetness is very low in the bitterness lingers on the tongue and it's kind of a thick beer and it's like a creaminess and that causes the bitterness to kind of kind of stick to your tongue in coat coat you told me in linger for quite a while and then the it's not just bitterness but it's a little bit of. A funkiness not maybe Brett per se but it's kind of a wet dog characteristic but it's also not a bad beer I've had much worse I.P.S. is a juicy I
mean I was just I was just going to say that I mean you know Dallas been alluding to are so far you know in the East Coast style the what's popular is that juicy quality and in this beers completely lacking that I mean there's there is no juicy
quality to the read. I thought Joe and I would ring in a different beer for a second or he said what I don't like about it is the sweetness but you clarified it what you mean is the lack of sweetness and I mean that really is with some spirit it's just it's as if you took all the juice and sweetness out of an East Coast I.P.A. this is what's left well said and I'll tell you I've talked a lot this one I'm sorry guys yeah. You just kind of wish it out. Is. Staying in. Is that I don't get a lot of
complexity I'm getting one flavor it's one no yes one no there's nothing that's bouncing or changing into something else and adding complexity it's just this. Is this pungent bitterness that I don't like to see you're making lemonade right and you squeeze
a bunch of lemons and then you're going to put like some sugar in that and make it a little more palatable so it's easy drinkable is it worth the squeeze Well it's not there skipping that part so this is just the squeeze be part of it you literally
just pulled the words I don't know if that was the exact thing I was going to say I mean I'm a telepath literally I mean that was I was my next comment is if you it's called worth the squeeze and this is they made lemonade and they didn't have the
sugar and that's what you got here which actually I appreciate I think it's pretty good. I mean it's not getting a lot of love but I mean I like that it's not happy Bittern me it's Lemon better to me and I guess similar enjoy it's Rhine Yeah it's like and it's a little bit dry maybe even Yeah I feel like we're trashing it but it's not about beer so I've had the spirit couple times and I'm not drinking it right now but for from what I remember maybe it's change I mean the beer you guys drink and has travelled a bit maybe it's different what I had I slept with it one night. From what I recall it had a lot of tropical fruit like the main papaya and nobody's mentioned but I enjoyed this beer because it was very like non acidic and a lot of these sort of northeast style I.P.A. is have this acidic citrus flavor and I didn't get that and so on and I really enjoyed it because it was not acidic like a lot of these ones are I don't think it was better at all and it had sort of a soft. Not creamy but a soft mouth feel that I enjoyed Yeah I don't. That's a perfect way to be as I say it is of soft Yeah it's a soft mouth feel it's not you don't do a bitter beer face it's not overly pungent and there's nothing about it like jumps out and you go like whoa it just it he does it falls flat it just isn't nothing is overwhelming it's a subtle taste subtle That's a good word and soft it's not a bad mouth feel it's just it's just light and yeah easy to drink in just a mellow drink or I like this beer
and I have the words we usually use we're describing here we like it like it's crisp You know it's it's easy to drink it's a hot hot hot summer day and those are the words you describe for this beard but yet somehow it still works yeah well Regardless thank you on for bringing that to us any other listeners that want to give us beer to try on the show it's more than welcome send it our way. You know let's get into the beer news of the day. OK first story in the frivolous lawsuit department here we go. In the lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court of California as Northern District Sara Soni and Simone Zimmer allege that craft beer Alliance misleads consumers about the true origin of beers Berry in the Kona brewing company brands reports west Hawaii today in the plane the plaintiffs say the company's use of hula dancers surfers Kulu a a volcano Waikiki Beach and other images clearly associated with the Aloha State are deceiving customers into paying more for granted ales the names of the beers such as Big Wave Golden Ale castaway I.P.A. fire rock PELAYO of Longboard Island lager also give off deceptively. Hawaiian vibe I got a simple simple solution for this if you don't like the bitch don't fucking drink it. Yeah but also
Well that's not their point but the point is that I assume she's filing this lawsuit because the why in beer that we drink in the US is not made in Hawaii right in California the beer we drink from them is made in Oregon and nothing on the packaging
makes it clear as to where the beer is actually brewed according to the company's website the fifth largest US craft brewer makes beers at facilities in New Hampshire Oregon Tennessee and Washington state in any beer sold in the upper forty eight is brewed it one of these facilities however Kona Brewing Company does operate a flagship brew house in Kailua-Kona on the big island of Hawaii I've been there but that facility only produces around twelve thousand barrels of beer annually. Come on
people I don't care about that yeah they're going to name their beers after things that are relevant to them in their you know creation of the brand like they don't what we're going to call it like oh this is our Oregon beer so we're only going to name it
that it's just mean it's good marketing and it's just it's what they have to do as a prairie I claim that if I name a beer volcanic I paint someone sues me because I did it for him Brew in a volcano piston. Yeah I mean and every beer is trying to be creative and they have a whole theme of beers but I don't care what it's Dave. For being such a mainstream brewery now Kona actually does a really good job longboard is nice easy drinker Feyerick has a little hops to it there. Whatever they're castaway I.P.A. is pretty solid if you get a variety pack of one of those beers you can even bring into a family gathering there's going to be one for your Aunt Kathy and your you know cousin Steve and I don't remember color keeping kids away from Cotton still. I don't remember. Kona being particularly expensive so I think the part of the law that I would normally agree with on legal grounds of being like well it's misleading yes I agree that it's misleading but what harm is it doing and I'm not doing it it was founded in Hawaii it's not mislead you know I mean it's there well tell you I mean we've been drinking Kona beers for many years and when I first found out that it wasn't actually made in Hawaii that Elisa stuff we get in California I was a little disappointed but it's the industry you got to live with that you got to do your research and figure out where it's made and it's not made and why if you want the real stuff going to Hawaii but it's the same Here is the same oh you just got to get it here if I give you the breweries by doing us a favor by you know by not importing it you know right there we put in the kinds of Maurice's much Yeah exactly if it would not taste as good after being on a boat for that long got a new lawsuit idea for all you frivolous lawsuit people out there Boston Beer Company Samuel Adams Boston Lager guess what it's not brewed in Boston it's prudent Cincinnati OH I guess the out run it's just going to say for the mills river people on the East Coast it's not made in the Sierra Nevada is either and it's not in Syria to think of them so. Yeah grazing just. You know you don't have to look too far to if you want to come up with one of these lawsuits but good luck winning it or that's going to do some real good news Summerville bring company in Boston is making a beer with Captain Crunch Berries cereal seriously nine percent alcohol by volume it's called Saturday morning and for a brewery that's constantly plays Cartoon Network said it's Somerville taproom it makes sense according to Reminds me of the toaster pastry from twenty first Amendment little bit we start with a base recipe roughly similar to that of our tracker triple the brewery standard triple style Belgian and add the. With
cereal during the mash him he told Boston dot com in an e-mail we also added a good amount of flake corn to the mash in order to add smoothness to the body and further emphasize the cereal like overtones I want to try it I'm in there going to watch it in mid March likely the week prior to St Patrick's Day It will be available at the Tap Room and can and locally distributed Jeff going to trading partners on this we need to try this Captain Crunch beard I'll drink to that right now indeed I need a brewery to make a beer that to use like Honey Nut Cheerios I feel like that would be a good tasting well called Honey Nut Barrios to see. If anyone would like to contact us here at your husband's work as a brewer Yeah so have Joe brew Honey Nut Bierria Honey Nut Cheerios get on the dole you're looking at getting sued right yeah that's a lawsuit waiting to happen General Mills done so who wants a triple I.P.A. not me but I would like another beer I mean I run me from else a good job Brewing Company else a good a California this is the power plant triple I.P.A. ten point five percent now there is truth in advertising it's called El Segundo Brewing Company and it was brewed in else again and. Yeah and this is Dallas has been here else again it was one of the best L.A. breweries for I.P.S. I mean there's a lot of good L.A. breweries Now we've seen a ton of growth the last couple years we talked in the past about how there were so few breweries a few years ago else going to spend there for a while and this is maybe one of the one of the premier places to get I.P.S. fantastic I got a I got a very vigorous poor so my head is significant it is. Receding though and it's super clear it's like one of the first things I noticed it's very clear this is going to sound bad but I love it because I love it Dimetapp. Sets with as a kid this smells just like Dimetapp it does Wow I love it was a city that we have so. Well it works house I love it that was really good though you know and I did not
see was downtown the first thing you got drunk off of probably the bottle but pretend to be six years so it does have that grape Laver and like a liquid or smell to it yeah so I mean triple yeah you expect it to. It to the alcohol to be higher so it's going to be sweeter than your average I.P.A. usually sometimes less hockey more multi more overwhelming sweetness to mask the alcohol that's generally what the style is I haven't had a sip yet so I did not know it is all of those things you just said. But I just had to I had a set up I don't think it was boozy but I think this is a beer that. It's a little bit a little bit but it's a beer that will catch up with you quickly I mean the alcoholics I mean it's temporary five percent but you drink a few glasses of this and you're going to be drunk the first thing I thought when I drank this where was where has this beer been all my life because there are many times Robin drinking late at night when I want that beer it's going to top it off and this is that beer that your little night cap this is the beer that says good night to Joel I'm going to bed and put myself to sleep because I've had too much to drink but in a good way this is a great way to end a night is it weird to say I'm not sure if I like it or not but I want more. Well so I have a good start yeah like I think I kind of hate it but I want to drink more so second you know get the job done quicker and it's. Going to more to squeeze seven percent crank it up three point five percent more. Never a transition had to use the two sip the recent rule to sip whatever. And then you start to get you can taste the hops you can taste the flavors you're used to the booze in this and I think it's a good beer on the second sip I
started. I need to start in my head making comparisons let's compare this to Sim true yeah yeah and so I think this is actually got a more boozy because it's actually now eleven point one percent. I just say said that. It's only been three minutes. I honestly feel I've only had two sips So far I will go for more I haven't been able to pick out any flavors but I just want to say that I feel like after taking a sip and exhaling I'm like a fire breathing dragon you know like it is like gasoline coming out. So this is you know when I get the A.B.B. I'm going to like less accurate sites like Beer Advocate and root beer and so I'm not getting these and the information from beer that day those unreliable beer sites What is her East change I mean the recipe for this changes and probably the old version was ten point five The new versions eleven point one I mean that happens with a lot of beers that we see OK So this is this beer has a Melanie tropical Laffy Taffy sweetness to it with bitterness and it is good it is a great flavor it does have a strong bitterness so if you don't like that you're probably not going to like this beer but. I will say that that laffy taffy. Melanie sweetness and Cara Mel undertones really play really well to the bitterness in this beer I want to know who Melanie is. You know I think the president's wife is a really weird Melanie Malani Oh yeah from a scientific standpoint to make a triple I.P.A. Joel you group beer I mean you have it you have to have a ton of malt the sugar and here I mean it's going to be sweet because to get that high of alcohol you have to pump it up right. Yeah and so there's some inherent sweetness that that's going to come with any triple I.P.A. but there's also a ton of hops because to make a trip by pay you have to make it you know put a ton of hops in a ton of malt I agree melon optical fruit but there's this lingering sweetness but it's not bitter I mean this is a beer that eleven point one percent it will catch up with you with alcohol but it's not a super bitter beer I don't know if I totally agree with that Jeff ammonite it tastes better to me I mean it I've had beers that are at this alcohol level where you taste it and all you can taste is sugar and that's certainly not what I'm getting with this beer I mean I I can take the sweetness in the in the beer but I it's not overly Sugar Lee and I get I get bitterness out of it I get quite a bit of bitterness I agree with Steve so maybe it's a difference between I.P.A. drinkers and non I.P.A. drinkers maybe two I.P.A. drinkers It's not that better to me it's extremely better especially on the finish and it's like that drying betterness that will like stick around and dry your tongue out. I think it's really better is anyone getting like a light after taste of almost a stout at the very end with the bitterness my very first thought with this beer along those lines was if someone told me this was a Scotch ale Yeah OK I get like I feel like I'm getting
like hints of stout So when I pee a reply paid mixed in it's a bit of like red ale yet there's little chalky ness of the end yeah so maybe if you didn't look at the color of the spear the color being a golden color very clear if you were just drinking his beer blind you might get a darker more scotch you kind of character if you have it but then it does have Joe's the does have that melon flavor in the in the tropical fruit the stuff that you're going to find only and I. Mean it is it is this kind of complex flavor I mean there are there is a kind of counter flavor. Working against each other here you know and I'm really glad we've had this beer tonight I mean is it for me it's been a unique style because it's so just such high A.B.V. but yet still such an I.P.A. but yeah it's what you want to triple I.P.A. you want a big bold flavorful. Hot be bittersweet everything all at once. You know you want to kind of you want to take it up to eleven. You know I would tell me it wasn't ten point five it's actually one eleven point one alone point so guess what you can see yeah the numbers all go to eleven rock across the boat. And mostly live and the amps go up to ten exactly does that mean it's louder is I wounder Well it's one louder isn't it it's not ten you see most blokes in be playing it ten euro ten here all the way up all the way up you know the way up your own channel you can tell where can you go from there where I don't know at exactly what we do if we need that extra push of the cliff you know we don't quite up to what happened exactly one that I want to just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder. These are two eleven. All right perhaps that is the I.P.A. segment of the show when we come back there were three groups followed by a real star and a barrel sour stuff. All that coming up on the second half of our L.A. show here on the pier the pod cast. Welcome back to the beer the day podcast is our Strange Brew segment who if you don't know what that is well try a little common sense it's pretty self-explanatory. You know it's beer voodoo don't it grape gorilla from rogue ales in Newport Oregon been there love them so I was cautiously optimistic. It sounds good. In honor of Andy do you think these the free range coastal waters in this area. What's that aroma I mean that's aroma smells great damage up. Like. Oh. Well it's not Jolly Rancher What is it that
smells really great. You know it's like grape can be. He's like just great Jolly Rancher Yeah I think a little bit kindly Don it's a great Jolly Rancher for sure. Aromatic with maybe a little hint of malt known on the back there yeah you're right jolly rancher but not the little candy kind the long ones that you would put in like the Nowadays your icicles that you got in a freezer that were lost that this is not a pop that's yes it is great on. Every word in the. Song sorry I stole that from you know some United No no I didn't you you nailed it so this is this color you know if I look at this beer I'm thinking it's going to be some sort of amber ale possibly a dark pale ale the copper color it looks like a penny from one hundred seventy six. So for you can barely see through it the description of the beer I feel like the colors right on I feel like this is the color I was expecting it to be and I don't know why I don't like I like all right Bill the aroma is right off oh yeah for sure the grape gorilla coming in it what is this seven point five according to the she going to check the bottle to be sure which I want to make you know that with the amendment to the power plant triple I.P.A. A.B.V. at eleven point one That boosts our
average A.B.V. to some point five for a little beer is only seven point two So really your calculations and. Truth in news reporting People Are you channeling Catherine Johnson and then Chan So we have a lot of strange brews that end up not being really strange brews where it's a strange brew and name but in the taste it's not but this is definitely won that qualifies as a strange brew there is no other beer in the world I've only had one sip of this beer and you could put any other beer in the world up against it and I would know exactly that which beer is which it does. It tastes like a beer though you had to say it he said no this is like an alcoholic grape juice so it's like a beverage Zima that someone order a grape Autor popsicle into its beverage throughout a beer feel that's exactly what it tastes like I love this this is a great water pop that is permanent and for the last five years. Actually just melted down some water pumps and then threw some hops into it I think it is throughout or pops into whatever other beer rogue had that there are five hop ale or whatever so I feel like a lot of rogue beers like the they go with the interesting like the voodoo done a thing right and a lot of the. Flavor sounds like they're going to be good but they'd never quite live up to what the actual flavor is all that's got to feel like this one does this is delicious Yeah I feel like this is exactly what you're getting you're getting like a great donut multi you're getting a great multi donut. With like grape jelly Yeah. Yeah great build Yeah but it doesn't it doesn't taste like grape jelly though it tastes like grape Otter Pop I'm really go out with that we have this beer on the spot cast because I'm so sick of look at the spare my fridge I'm so glad that we're getting. Picked up isn't on the bottle I like the initial three voted on to be yours I think because they were more donut he this is a really taste like a donut to me now but the place as a strange group it fits the
bill completely you can have it so they more strange beer than this you know there are some curious things on the back of this I remember us talking about what Plato is before it's sixteen degrees Plato it's sixteen I.B.U. what's seventy eight a day
that's a place where you go to any single woman. Well I'll tell you what I would never buy that bottle again and I would I'm glad we I'm glad we tried it and I'm glad I'm never. After trying again to show I'm going to immediately order one through beer of the day it was on an order want to get another one you can get it through Amazon but Rogue is one of the few breweries It has figured out a way to sell their beer on their website so you can get it through the Web It's just like grape juice I mean it's slightly fermented grape juice it's not bad but it was sweet I would drink this again but I'm not going to go out of my way to buy it it's not like beer now it's awful I guarantee you you'll never drink this again it's a problem if it's there and it's open maybe but I would not go out and buy it if I was on a desert island it was either drink this or death I would drink it it was drink this or drink water I would drink this. Yes always has had a little up on for a while but minutes which the water because you're going to get tired of it really made us very very quickly OK so. The inner webs is telling me that the A is the alpha acid you know oh yes it's bitterness a measurement of bitterness equals hopping a percentage times the number of answers out into the boil. Wonderful I didn't get any better and I got a great ball away with me one of the next beer to make me just truly. Lucky to live through. This is the mill right meal stout you know true from Palmdale California not really Los Angeles but it's on the way so there's an actual feel it's and Wake County it's nice little jaunt it is and I've been looking forward to this because I've had some of their beers at Mammoth. At the Brewers and palooza festival in the past and Palmdale is not too far from where I live so I've been looking forward to these. It's basically L.A. It's a little out there but it's L.A. It's like this one was recommended to us this is the real stout mill wright who recommends one. Our friend that it will rock crafters cellars which you guys went to a few weeks ago which you have also excellent. Well my I mean it's my go to place to buy beer in the L.A. area. So here are two place to lock your keys in your car I was going to make that joke if you didn't. Until acted in the trunk of our car so there it's side bar Joel give the story of us driving from Sacramento to L.A.. And we started Sacramento ended at craft beer sellers was our End Point go all right so first of all I got twenty miles
per gallon in my Honda Accord on the way from Sacramento L.A. on the way home I got twenty eight miles per gallon because on the way there it was like a hurricane the entire time when I got done driving from Sacramento L.A. I had blisters on my hand from a holding the steering wheel he was white knuckle I was white knuckling the son of a bitch it was the worst storm of the year for Southern California so we left here drove down we were driving through gale force head winds right into its rain will downpours Every stop every place we stop to get Starbucks it was a flood so it was a it was a crazy the vine resin saying it was like fifteen yards visibility with fifty mile an hour head winds and just the she says of rain coming down and we had to stop and we had to follow Caltrans so that Caltrans could. To clear all of the main gutters on the freeway before we could continue to drive down the road because the rain was so intense that there were rivers flowing in to the drains and Caltrans had to clear all the debris before we continue and let's clarify that these durians were also in the Grapevine and if anyone has ever been on the grapevine given that flat water rule it's a bit like it's a hill water rolls like down anyway and they had to clear the gutters anyway because it was so bad but we did all for one sacred reason for the sake of beer we wanted to see our friend Jeff and we were going to do it I didn't know just going to hell or highwater hurricane but no Jeff love no I was going for beer. I'm glad you guys came to visit was a bad weekend in terms of the weather actually but it was better in the day we got there than there were over the weekend with beautiful terrible horrible storms that were supposed to happen all we have Saturday Sunday day Sunday and sunny day so there's one day every finish Still story the terminus of our trip was this bottle shop the eagle in Eagle Rock where Jeff wanted to meet us and Joel went to your we you went to the car to grab beers that I brought from Russian River Brewing Company Yes or Hugo or Hugo and Jeff I brought a bunch of Russian River Brewer some play me some plenty and some blind pig plenty. By going to that in the comments coming up by the way. And there was a lot of beer to carry back to Jeff and in a full on rainstorm pouring it was pouring and I had to pick up all the beer so I put my keys down and I put the keys down inside of my car trunk and I closed the trunk and I had to call a bunch of people. To.
Come on locking my car because most people were unreliable but eventually we got into our car anyway it was a fun trip let's get into the next beer this is the mill right old mill stout Lucky Luke brewing in Palmdale So the first thing I'll say is this beer looks exactly like a Coca-Cola So if you want to know this beer looks like pour a glass of Coca-Cola might be a little bit flat that's what this looks like it smells floral and I don't think I've ever described a stout smelling that way when I was one of the best smelling bears have ever smelled I think the head on this is very dark colored like a tan khaki color you know and it smells I mean I smell the old meal stout. And it's Coca-Cola colored Yes but it is not like it's more viscous.
You would think this is this looks like what it will start should look like yeah but I totally get the smell definitely there's the oh that's like toasted honey oh even maybe I don't know when he does but I get a little caramel smell you get that I don't root beer to coffee a little coffee some a little bit yeah you know this is one of the spears that's robust it's got the caramel malt. Well so we'll just pull over cola those bullets for the Diet Coke and do a glass and then the head obviously dissipates much faster on the Coca-Cola they are very close but that beer is a little bit darker a little bit dark. But that's pretty good pretty good. So the spear though is only five point three percent which is a little low I think very stout by point three percent but it tastes like I mean three I mean it's got like robust a little bit of coffee a little chocolate I feel like the flavors are excellent Yeah it is really good tasting beer I do feel that it's a little bit thin first out what. I think you're so the light it's like a light STOUT Yeah it doesn't linger for a long period just gone totally but like but it tastes great compared to Guinness I'd take this over Guinness in a moment totally the probably disappear it's then to drink a bowl totally in its drink of will but it lacks and mouthfeel. I don't know I don't think so necessarily first oh I forgot I don't have it or an open heels down it does but it's still a very good beer but I think the flavors are spot on it's balanced it's not overly sweet it's not overly bitter but both of those are in play. It's got a good oh well ever with some coffee like roasted malts it's all in or I thought I would I would totally pick this up again I thoroughly enjoy this one you know what kind of malt you guys get but the caramel to row maybe a little Carol but you don't like caramel The meat is all that's not in just a script and it's not it's not very caramel Yeah but it's like a hint of it just like him and this beer is not that sweet No not I was actually thinking reserved bitterness. Very little sweetness but it's it's not super better either like right in the middle of that range and you know I enjoy it I think it's part of that too it's I mean Brittany or the you know the porter and stout drinker it's pretty smooth right yes I think it is in like I said like I would definitely drink this again. Especially with like what's coming up I drink porters and stout throughout the year and sometimes they can get a little thick and you can start to anonyma stuff but this would be a really good one to drink during the summer because it is a bit like here I said it's light. So yeah I like it you could define slam a few of these down on St Paddy's there yeah and enjoy it a great incoming transmission You've Got Mail. Comments this week. J M five six two hey it's warm he was he commented on flying pig from Russian River he says I enjoy Blind Pig more than quantity Yup I said it most people say that well. I don't think
most people think that we did blind pig on this show last time. I really enjoyed it I said if I was dictator of the world I wouldn't course that would be the beer that everyone drinks maybe I would rather have clients a little more to it but really really good. Under-rated playing to gets all the fanfare and blind pig so good else you do know rowing company the five pound sledge hammer case am nine eleven Dad One two three I think a relatively new user said delicious I would never have known this
was a double I.P.A. very smooth not too happy and a delightful flavor that lingers just long enough as a double I.P.A. from Elsa good though it sounds really good if you had it Jeff Absolutely that's one of the best from L.C. and a five pound sledge hammer sounds good standard crude two thousand and sixteen urban barrel aged also good as well. Roper dog newsgroup I had this in stone grew and it's hard to describe because this beer is so damn good it is smooth great flavor and just all around
also beer please make more and make more of it available to mail order things Jeff Roper Dog Saloon. So he had that at Stone Brewery I love how Stone sells Elsa go to brewery in their tap room yeah they're just whatever good beers they can find that they sell there and it's a good place to go we talked about the brewery tap or room to talk about Syria bad temper room. Stone. Another very good tap room to definitely check that out on Instagram. We featured air quotes from Mumford brewing. And I got a bunch of comments and likes braccia Lieber a said Young Reginald Warren photography looks a thumbs up J M five sixty I've heard that guy he says welcome enjoy happy face Cheers clinking beer glasses thumbs up. Girl afraid five two two where do you purchase all your featured beers Adhir they cite Jeff you want to answer that yes and I forgot to respond but I meant to what you get Cirque responded man you know we get a good amount of our basement to war after the war. But we don't read a lot
bigger than a dot com or just T. A.V. dad here that a dot com You want to go join to bore we will get ten dollars I think pretty good at what he said but we get a lot of our beers just locally too I mean we're in California get our peers in a soap outdoor cow and then we supplement that with the dove or bears and book cover and sometimes we trade in some time to go on business trips Yeah that's true. I would upset if I did I was in St Louis this week and I got some St Louis beers to share with you all just gets Is there hope they checked. The whole paycheck. Yet so we take beer cations we bring back beer we have a bunch of huge Pelican cases that we load up with beer and bring back and then the couple trading partners Lance and Hugo have and they've been sending us and we're so all kinds of ways to get beer if you want to sell his beer go ahead and send it to us. So Instagram we are at Pier the day site we're on Twitter at Pier the day we're on Facebook. Facebook. Com slash the beer of the day follows there and said this your comments We appreciate it. Last year the night. I mix that for this one this is from the brewery we told you the brewery story I'm still not sure what brewery is this is from Toro brewery to RO This is their
spin off of their set experimental sour type beers Heart of Darkness barrel age sour stout seven percent and we confirm that in the bottle taught of darkness should I don't allow to say this is rather dark six point eight percent target darkness. A pun takeoff on. Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness So six points six percent yes six point six percent you're correct Joel you want to you want to tell a story of this beer Yes So we went to the brewery and so I kind of fought hard for the brewery because I think the brewery has a bunch of unique. Options available in all of their beers are so just unique in their own individual way so when we we went to brewery we had a. I think there was a flight of six for each individual person and there was a total of four of us so we had twenty four different beers between the four of us that we ran the gamut of their beers to like each I feel like each of us picked like a good mix Yeah we the goal was for us to all have unique beers and so this was one of the beers we only bought two beers I think from that brewery it was the the beer and also the tart of darkness so and so we purchased this one because we were so blown away by the flavor and the intensity of this beer now we would have bought more beer but they didn't have them available you're right that's correct they will wind up. On the mission to buy certain beers and knowing that we're going to have them we're going to pick up what at least two more one from your flight and one from my flight that we wanted to buy and then that's my gripe with the breweries we couldn't we couldn't get them so we ended up with two we end up two and so this was one of them so this was my beer of the day for the brewery trip in L.A.. I got to be honest I don't remember a whole lot about it. Because it's a long day now the good times stop now but the problem is we went to five breweries I think that we said yeah but we we went places afterwards and so that kind of was up the whole day and we went through we went to places the night before so maybe not the rest of you but I had a bit of a slow start Clermont so sorry one I was I was still fighting back so what I will say is that I am jealous that Jeff has this whole bottle to himself to drink. I
know I know he thank you I don't know exactly what the Spirit smells like I will see if anybody else sorry sorry I do so dark brown color not too far off from the previous beer with the Coca-Cola color but a little bit of a come in there you can tell this is more opaque you can't see anything through it I'm getting almost like darkest brown black. Little it has a little like kind a ruby jewel at the bottom it's not I think it probably is a little bit hazy I would that something I forgot to mention about the mill right is that the mill right actually seemed very clear you know it was dark but it was very clear as dark but he yes the head is pretty thin just to him colored head not particularly impressive with lace and it doesn't hold So Steve what was the aroma you were going wanted what I said I think sour cherry a debt definitely Cherry was involved in monetary policy big bourbon soaked. Cherry's. Yeah which makes sense because this is a male the Arrow it's a bear alleged beer is it bourbon. I would I would guess it was it is yes probably I feel like I was looking at me to figure this out if you want to say is a bottle a sour stout aged in oak barrels so normally bourbon is. Prime number just oh yeah and if you if you smell and
continue to smell like it if you get past it like first you're going to get the funk right you small the sour the new smell like the fruit the Cherry You can smell the oak in the aroma and there's a lot of fitness there's a given to you minutes and then there's a lot of figure but it's good but not a lot of sweetness so normally when you get a ton of Fig flavor you're getting a lot of sugar and sweetness with it I mean there are not as much sweetness in this as there is compared to tart Yeah I'm getting a lot tart and it's but I absolutely love it but I think first and foremost this is a sour beer it is number one thing that comes out for me it is a it's not our doubt tastes. But a sour stout it's not something we have very often but this is a sour beer this is. Our sour affair found bands out there this is what they're looking for but how often do you have a sour beer that also has this word roast and that's on the body Yeah yeah yes it is it tastes you can taste roasted mall in there
or not the stuff I have solution to is that it keeps it from being too sour Now this is a sour beer Don't get me wrong but a lot of sorry beers I take a sip and I'm like puckering then that's like too much he says nice fair amount of sour right up front and then it that toasty malt kind of balances it out so you know you know overwhelmed by it I think very complex because I also get like I get the roast I get the sour I get the cherry I get a little bit of oak like a smoked like Smoky. It also taste. Like Terry COLA it gets that sweet taste at the end you start out kind of that quick pucker and then you just feel it kind of transition slowly through the stages and then you end up but like the very end as that's. That your taste minutes after heavy even after the sweetness though Britain alluded to I mean you have in your earlier you said I think it was the power plant you said you're breathing fire afterwards with this one you truly are you're breathing smoke at the end I mean that smoking is really really comes through at the end that's really nice we went to the California craft Expo was that. There was one there they had a couple of tarts and that was like What the what they're what they did remember what brew that was black vinyl maybe love black but a good brewery in Sacramento I think tarts are getting more popular than a true sour this is a true sour because it doesn't have that but to me the tarts get real real sweet and this doesn't do that this kind of keeps it's sour notes and then you get does a little bit of sweetness and then it turns smoky and I really like it and this at six point six percent is actually very low alcohol for the beurre And when we went to that when we went there everything was like it went ten and nineteen percent Oh. Yeah as I mean average was like fourteen. To six point six percent for this brewery is pretty low this is a very drink of all our stout I enjoy this this is tasty. And it's very tasty so you had a love child number five recently can you see how the stacks up to that. Yeah well love child number five is. I mean it's a and you know we got lucky that we found one and it is so perfectly balanced and sweet as well as tart. Yes as well as rudeness this is this is not
going to compare because if you're a sour drinker this is doubt sour which is in a unique category it's not going to compare at all. Love child number five is going to be for that much more fruity desire this is going to be for more that more complex almost bourbon drinker who wants to try something that has a ton of flavor profile that one some that's unique. Their love child number five is going to be someone who wants that that real fruity perfectly balanced you know taste the old literally the only fruit picking up on this is Cherry Yeah I mean I'm trying to find something else in there and there's no there isn't big and it's just Cherry I to add to Joel about love child number five I love child number five is probably my favorite sour out there it's the first hour that I really fell in love with and it is this hour that I stack up all other sours to. This is a lot more complex then love child number five but it's also much less our aunt's last week. We picked up another bottle
recently in love child number five was brewed it's been over a year right so I'm going to I'm interested to see how it's done in the bottle since then but when it was fresh it was I mean it would be hits you like in your mole or like your back now a lot
or like make your mouth water like it sour it's not a sour is like almanacs ours those are almost too sour for me. This is more complex though but I don't know if you can necessarily compare them because this is incredibly unique in being the stout
with the smokiness. But I like both I think are both excellent when we get strange comment here but real strange but weird not normal you guys are talking about. The brewery there was kind of hoity toity I am loving their back label on the bottle they give you this like kind of tortilla instructions how to drink it your cellar storage temperature your serving temperature best kind of glass to pour it in it says on here. So do it carefully leave the yeast in the bottle please poor carefully leave you sediment behind it's not going to help the flavor profile the yeast so how many other I feel like this is almost I mean I feel like a lot of birds do this but I think it's like really specific to sours that's on the back of almost every sour is they will tell you what glassware should be in but you need to leave the sediment at the bottom of how you should storage should be served dinner to lip like all of these things are so it's a little pretentious but I like it. When you can tell they care about crafting it yeah it's like quality control right like OK it is this is how you drink this beer yeah you know you do a lot of my dog and others this is how you should leave. All right well let's sum up the beers we had they and then we'll spin the wheel of figure out who will go first in selecting their beer of the day Britain already we start off with Emeril a gorilla from smog city then Jeff had the invasive species from Beechwood we had the worth the squeeze I.P.A. given to us by one and they that is made by an indie Brewing Company we moved on to power plant trip Y.P.S. from El Segundo we had the voodoo donut great gorilla from rogue the mill right Oatmeal Stout from Lucky Luke brewing and we finished the night off with tart of darkness from brewery to rue our Joe grab that we'll give it a spin let's see who goes first. It's Steve who. I'm torn I redid the tarted organise a four point five but for my beer the day I'm going to go at the mill right now. I don't know I don't
know if I ever had a mill style before that I liked as much as I like this beer the flavors were all awesome even though it was kind of light in body much lighter than a traditional style it just had great flavor and I really really liked it so that's it I'm taken. Britain. So. I redid part of darkness the highest at four point seven I do want to give a shout out to Amarillo gorilla I read about a four point five and I think that's. Interesting for me to rate an I.P.A. that high Not that I'm an I.P.A. expert because I'm not but I did want to give them a shout out but my beer of the day hands down is tart of Darkness it's got that smoky finish with some cherry cola it's sour but it's a stout it's complex it's unique I think everybody should try it because there's a ton of flavor that you can pick up for so that is my beer of the day to Heart of Darkness All right so I am torn between power plant and tart of darkness there's so many torn people I wish I went ahead like and I don't mean. It's so hard so. Man if I was stuck on an island the rest of my life I'd go with Heart of Darkness it's so hard for me because power plant triple I.P.A. is the perfect balance between sugar and hopping ness and bitterness I love it so much but tart of darkness is so unique that has to be. The my beer of the day for all the reasons that Britain Steve already said so I am also going to go with Heart of Darkness close runner up what have to be the No right will stay out it was kind of almost a torn tie I always say. But I do like the fact that I get that sour a sweet kind of mouthwatering feel. Kind of leaves me wanting more and I'm just gonna have to go ahead and go with the tart of darkness Tara darkness was excellent I have to agree but I was going to be the voice of reason for everybody preposterous I'm going way back to the beginning Emeril a gorilla a good beer I was a bloody It's clear it was juicy so it was a mixture of styles it had that east coast juicy tropical type of fruit a nice hot be very happy I.P.A.. More so than most and but it wasn't that bitter it made it was a very flavorful beer incredibly flavorful beer. Love that one can't wait to try to get smug city Amarilly gorilla my beer the day Geoffrey. Cheese I hate to
always agree Dallas but. I'm always right. Not a bad beer tonight every single beer tonight was excellent I agree with that happy with the yeah I'm happy with our selection we had a very good trip with you guys coming down to L A Thank you for coming
out of his Thanks for having us I had a great time we had to plan the next one Jeff we got to go to Elsa Goon Show Beechwood we had to go to the other side of L.A. and maybe get time I'll make it down there with you and maybe this time we have crappy over drivers absolutely better weather I appreciate
us
